SAPHNA Student Ambassador
When I first qualified, I began working at Birmingham Childrens Hospital in the cardiac neonatal unit, then moved after 2 years to Birmingham City Hospital and worked as a staff nurse both on the medical and surgical wards, before moving to the Wirral in 2000.
I worked at Claire House hospice for children, West Kirby Residential School as an “in-house” school nurse, then later moving onto a role in Liverpool as a mobile immunisation nurse with a small team. It was here my desire to work within public health was born!
In 2011 I began working as an associate school nurse on the Wirral and joined the 0-19 Health and Wellbeing team when we moved across over to the Community Trust in 2015.
In 2022, i was successful in securing a temporary band 6 post as part of the COVID recovery plan within the team.
I was delighted to commence the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Postgraduate course in September 2023 at Chester University and look forward to where this may lead me on my professional once completed.
One of my biggest passions in practice is to ensure the voice of every child is captured, and for this to drive the planning and implementation of our all services.
Joining SAPHNA will enable and support me in my professional journey to be the school nurse that is proud to be part of delivering services that make a difference to our children and young people. To connect with like-minded professionals across the country is so exciting and look forward to what is ahead.
The role of the student ambassador
- Connect with other SCPHN students and share experiences and good practice to help build a school nurse community, advocating and raising the student voice.
- To promote SAPHNA to wider SCPHN students and help to raise the profile of the school nursing role.
- Encourage and promote other students to join SAPHNA
