LGBTQ+/Gender Identity Awareness Training – Now Available via SAPHNA and the Sussex Partnership NHS Trust
We are proud to offer a powerful and highly regarded training opportunity in partnership with Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, led by the experienced and inspiring Dr Jamie Willo.
Dr Willo, a trans non-binary Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist and LGBTQ+/Gender Identity Inclusion Training Lead, has delivered over 400 workshops to schools, healthcare organisations, local authorities, and charities across the UK. Their engaging, interactive training style has been consistently praised for its emotional impact, clarity, and ability to create lasting change in attitudes and understanding.
Training That Changes Hearts and Minds
This training is designed for professionals working with children and young people – particularly those in education, healthcare, and social care – who want to improve their confidence, understanding and inclusivity when supporting LGBTQ+/gender-diverse individuals.
All training is available virtually or face-to-face, and sessions are action-learning based with a strong focus on empathy, inclusion, and real-life application.
Training Options
1. LGBTQ+/Gender Identity Basic Awareness (Part 1)
3 hours | Max 20 attendees
- What is gender identity, sexuality, and expression?
- Understanding terminology and common misconceptions
- Exploring assumptions and allyship
- Lived-experience stories
Attendance required before attending Parts 2 and 3.
2. LGBTQ+/Gender Identity Intermediate Mental Health (Part 2)
3 hours | Max 20 attendees
- LGBTQ+ mental health needs
- Autism, family dynamics, inclusion at school
- Hate crime, distress factors, and inclusion checklists
Attendance at Parts 1 and 2 required before attending Part 3.
3. LGBTQ+/Gender Identity Suicide Awareness (Part 3)
3 hours | Max 20 attendees
- Understanding and responding to LGBTQ+ suicidality and self-harm
- Case study work, risk factors, and protective approaches
Panel Talks Also Available
Dr Willo also offers 1-hour talks (virtual or face-to-face) on topics such as:
