First Aid for Life: Enhanced Mental Health for Children and Young People course – in partnership with Maudsley Learning.

First Aid for Life has partnered with clinicians from the Maudsley Hospital to provide unique, enhanced Mental Health First Aid training. This is delivered as blended learning with e-learning as pre-learning and a live, virtual day run by Maudsley Hospital clinicians through Maudsley Learning. The focus is on offering transferable skills to de-escalate situations, help manage challenging behaviour as well as providing a clear framework to help someone struggling with their mental health and a wealth of resources too.

The course uses the unique CARES approach to Mental Health, a step-by-step method to broaching difficult conversations and helping individuals to find the help they need. Building on the link between physical and mental wellbeing. Reducing stigma and creating practical courses promoting mental wellbeing and teaching transferable skills to help people develop more constructive interaction and communication, teaching them de-escalation techniques, grounding and positive management of difficult behaviour in adults, children and young people.

The collaboration with Maudsley has created a range of practical and online courses to improve mental health awareness, understanding the interdependence of mental and physical well-being and the importance of looking after our mental health and those of colleagues, family and friends. As well as sharing transferable skills, the courses help people recognise early warning signs of mental health challenges and introduce a clear step by step method to approaching someone who may need help. The courses offer simple directions and include a wealth of resources to signpost someone to, for further help.

The online pre-learning for the Blended Enhanced Mental Health First Aid Course consists of videos, step by step approach, infographics, print out PDFs and test yourself sections – plus comprehensive resources sections at the end of each major section. The online course can also be used as a stand-alone introduction to Mental Health First Aid.

The course is compatible with all devices, and you can stop and start as often as you like. You have full access for an entire year and can review back and forth as often as you like. You download and print your own certificate on completion. Certificates are valid for 3 years and also fulfil the requirements for verifiable CPD.

The Practical Day is virtual, delivered by clinicians from the Maudsley Hospital through Maudsley Learning.

The next date for the children and young people’s blended learning course is the 18th November and it can be booked from the following link.
