My journey in the NHS started in September 1982 as a Nursing Cadet at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. From there I went on to start my nurse training at Rotherham in October 1984 but couldn’t settle into the role of an adult nurse so returned to DRI as a Nursing Auxiliary in the Paediatric Unit. I stayed there until 2002 where I started my Children’s Nursing at Sheffield School of Nursing and Midwifery.
I worked as a Staff Nurse on a busy general ward and assessment unit, completing my degree in nursing studies, until I took a change of career to School Nursing in May 2010. Completing my SCPHN degree in 2013 allowed me to develop as a leader and manager. I set up a bespoke safeguarding team within School Nursing and became successful to the role of Team Lead in October 2016.
